Materials by use

Choosing a Laminam material does not depend on look alone. Format, thickness, finish, installation method and conditions of use matter.

Kitchens

A kitchen brings together more different surfaces than any other room. A worktop, island, wall and dining table can use the same material, but they do not need the same technical characteristics.

On this page you can see how selection works for kitchen surfaces and what to check before ordering.

What matters in a kitchen?

When choosing a kitchen material, the goal is not appearance alone. A worktop must handle everyday use, an island often has overhangs, a wall needs to be easy to maintain, and a table has its own requirements depending on construction.

Selection is therefore not one product for every surface. It is a check of which combination of thickness, format and material fits each part of the project.

Worktop

The highest loads and everyday use.

Island

Overhangs, joints and support are planned carefully.

Wall

Large format means fewer joints and simpler maintenance.

Table

Thickness depends on the structure and slab size.

Finish

Chosen for the look of the space and how it will be used.

Format

Checked separately for each material.

Kitchen elements

Each kitchen element has different requirements. That is why recommended thicknesses are not the same for a worktop, wall or dining table.

SurfaceThicknessesNote
Worktop / island12+, 20+A counter takes cutting, heat and weight. Choose 20+ when you need a thicker edge or a larger span without extra support.
Wall cladding2+, 3+, 5, 5+A vertical surface without foot traffic. 2 / 2+ mm exists only in the twO line, not across the full catalogue.

Overview by thickness

If you already know which thickness you are considering, you can see where it is most often used in a kitchen.

ThicknessKitchen surfaceNote
12+ / 20+Worktop, islandSink cut-outs and edge profiles are cut in the workshop. The décor must exist in this thickness before specification.
5 / 5+Rarely in kitchensNot a standard for a freestanding counter. It may apply with full support or for other kitchen elements.
2+ / 3+ / 5 / 5+Wall claddingWall behind the work zone. Specification is separate from the counter: different thickness, often a different finish.
2 / 2+ (twO)Wall claddingUltra-thin cladding. Not used for counters, islands or any horizontal work surface.

twO by Laminam

Ultra-thin 2 and 2+ mm slabs are used primarily for wall cladding, furniture elements and other surfaces that do not take heavy loads.

For worktops and islands, always check that the selected material exists in the appropriate thickness.

One material. The whole kitchen.

One of Laminam's main strengths is the ability for the same material to connect several kitchen elements.

When the right thicknesses and formats are available, the worktop, island, wall and table can be made in the same material. The result is not only a consistent look, but a calmer, more coherent space.
